Microsoft’s new Copilot+ PCs use AI to create a photographic memory of your desktop
At a special event at its new campus, Microsoft unveiled a new generation of Windows PCs built for the AI age. Called “Copilot+ PCs,” these machines are designed to be the fastest and smartest Windows computers ever.
According to Microsoft, Copilot+ PCs are up to 20 times more powerful and up to 100 times more efficient at performing AI tasks than regular PCs.
Microsoft also claims that they outperform Apple’s MacBook Air 15″ by up to 58% in multi-threading, while lasting all day – up to 22 hours of local video or 15 hours of web browsing.
The PCs are powered by Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus neural processing units with more than 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of processing power.

AMD and Intel chips that can pair with Nvidia or AMD GPUs for heavy workloads are coming later, Microsoft said.
Microsoft will offer Copilot+ PCs with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung starting at $999 on June 18. The Surface line will also get its own Copilot+ models in the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop.
Recall to become Windows’ do-it-all audiovisual memory
With Recall, users should be able to find nearly anything they’ve seen on their PC, like a photographic memory. The feature organizes info like the human brain based on individual links and ties, Microsoft claims.
A personal semantic search helps users quickly find what they want without having to recall file names or locations. The semantic index is made and stored all on-device to guard privacy.
Another new tool, “Cocreator,” uses NPUs to generate and tune AI images right on the device in near-real time. Users can draw image ideas with a pen and mix them with text details. The “Restyle Image” option lets users tweak the style of their own photos using AI.

Microsoft is also working with Adobe to enhance AI capabilities in applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Express for the new Copilot+ PCs. Other popular creative applications such as DaVinci Resolve, Algoriddim djay Pro, and LiquidText also use the NPU for new AI tricks.
In addition, Live Captions converts audio from over 40 languages directly into English subtitles, even offline. Copilot, Microsoft’s digital assistant that will soon be at your fingertips, is getting an upgrade to OpenAI’s new GPT-4o model for natural voice chat and to help you play Minecraft.
